Dr. Halverson is a master instructor in predator defense and family safety – he has personally trained over 10,000 women and children since 1976, as well as security personnel and law-enforcement, including SWAT. His FEARLESS course was sponsored by the Fulton County police in Atlanta due to citizen demand when two serial rapists were attacking and killing women. In 1982 the public outcry for these attacks was high, and police around the city were overwhelmed with a solution. The Fearless classes were full until 1987 when he relocated to the coast. Ren has lectured and taught corporations, including TBS and CNN, health clubs, including Gainesville Health and Fitness, a premier facility in Florida, churches, associations, and groups throughout the United States. Ren worked closely with Nelly Duke, head of the Georgia Women’s Commission in Atlanta, to present Fearless as an opportunity to safeguard them and their families. He has been interviewed on over 50 radio shows nationally, and appeared on television both in Atlanta and Portland, Maine regarding family defense and safety. Ren and Fearless were featured in the May 1985 issue of Newsweek Magazine entitled Rape.

About Ren.
Ren has had a lifelong mission against bullies, beginning when he was five years old in Harlingen, Texas. During recess, a large third grader needlessly shoved his friend Sally, also in kindergarten, into a swingset. Ren snapped, running full speed into the kid as he left, laughing. It took two teachers to drag him off the boy, one of whom witnessed the shoving incident and later told Ren‘s mom that he had protected the little girl. Later, his father praised his response. Ren‘s grandfather, Donald, was a boxing promoter in the Midwest during the depression. Ren‘s dad, Richard, was taught to box professionally and began teaching Ren when he was 7 years old. The family moved from Texas to Miami to New York, and his attitude toward bullies never wavered.
He began training in karate with Art McConnell in Glen Cove, New York, in 1971. After a winter in Colorado training in taekwondo, Ren returned to New York. He moved to Maine in 1973, where he began teaching. He also began training with Seung Ook Choi. Mr. Choi taught his system, which combined Korean styles, Shaolin, and boxing. This system is extremely complex, emphasizing boxing footwork, punch/kick combinations, and professional counterattacking. Mr. Choi, at the age of 18, won the All Asian championship, and subsequently studied for two years in a Shaolin monastery.
Upon his return to Korea, Ki Soon Kim, who became the first Korean boxer to win a world championship in boxing, needed sparring partners. Boxing was introduced to Korea in the early 1960s, and Kim was aware of Choi’s reputation and martial arts skills. Although Choi had never boxed, he undertook boxing, learning from Kim, and quickly became Kim’s premier sparring partner. Kim‘s victory over Nino Benvenuti for the world middleweight championship in 1966 sent shockwaves in the sport and spearheaded the growth and popularity of boxing in Korea and Asia. The experience also put Choi’s knowledge and fighting skills to an unprecedented level. No one in the world at that time combined martial arts and boxing, incorporating them into one system. Mr Choi developed advanced fighting drills, including foot movement offensively and for countering attacks, and kick- punch combinations using every type of kick and punches to cover every angle of engagement.
These drills, along with Ren’s one-on-one training with Mr. Choi, became staples in Ren’s fighting style and teaching framework. Ren was a nationally ranked black belt fighter in the late 1970s and managed and trained seven world-ranked kickboxing professionals through 2001, including the female U.S. middleweight champion, 2 male fighters also ranked #2 in their divisions, and a world champion. He’s a 7th-degree black belt and was inducted into the International Blackbelt Hall of Fame in 2014.

FEARLESS: The Mindset & Skillset to Protect Yourself and Your Family
Overview
Fearless Family Defense is an A–Z system of defense against professional-level predators who prey on women and children. It is designed to be learned step-by-step in two ways:
1) Precautionary Awareness & Prevention
Precautionary facts developed with law enforcement to avoid being a target, with situational Do’s and Don’ts for home and car safety, walking and jogging routes, large parking lots, and city garages. Awareness training is emphasized, along with detailed sociopathic predator profiles.
Perhaps the most important lesson Ren teaches is how to control fear and turn it into an advantage to escape a crisis. This is a specific technique everyone should know.
The Fearless Manual covers all of these topics and more, including illustrated details of techniques to escape an attack safely.
2) Physical Defense & Escape Training
The Fearless DVD/video link covers everything needed to physically escape an attack unharmed after disabling an assailant.
Through regular and slow-motion instruction, it teaches:
-
Specific stances for all angles of attack
-
Foot movement for speed, control, and positioning
-
Use of balance and leverage to offset larger attackers
-
Counterattacks to neurological shock points to stop an attacker and allow safe escape
Additional techniques include strategies for crowd control and mob violence.
The Manual and Video are designed for course review and step-by-step practice, allowing families to train together and learn the system correctly. Mastery comes through repetition and precision.
No one who has taken the Fearless course since 1976 has reported being hurt in an attack. In one case, a participant successfully talked her way out of a dangerous situation.
Ren’s mission since 1976 is that every family learns this course.

"I took the Fearless Seminar with Dr. Halverson at our medical complex last year. The material was very in-depth, easy to learn, and Dr. Ren never went on to the next segment until everyone in class had the technique down!
We all learned so much. The book and DVD are great because we can review at home with our families. I highly recommend Fearless to every woman in America."
